When I could know and understand You,
O most beloved Lord,
I saw You shining uniquely within my own mind.
I saw You in the morning flowers,
in my arteries
and in the sphere of my own mind.
I saw You also in the soft breeze,
in the chirping of birds,
in the sound of the swan
and in my own tunes.
By my own intellect, I have attained You not,
for You took away my intellect.
You merged my ego and inertness
with the dust in the mud.
Such intense darkness
would otherwise have kept You away from me.
