All nature's creatures sleep at night.
Why does shiuli stay awake?
Mother, kindly tell me why.
All other flowers play by day
laughing and dancing in fragrant array
while around them black bees busily buzz
collecting their hidden delights.
I love too the day
as the flowers do
and so I know them well.
I know them all
so very well,
their colours and sweet smells.
The flowers and the puppies, all,
the black bees and the myna birds,
lay down their heads in sweet repose
during the dark of night.
Shiuli alone defies dusk's call
and proudly proclaims her special role,
"Look I am still awake!"
Kindly tell me mother why
shiuli's special ways?
Out of love for whom
she serenades the night
and shuns the light of day?
Listen close, my darling child
why shiuli loves the night.
She feels so shy in the light of day
and hides away her face.
Shiuli's precious petals fall
at the break of every dawn,
when You, my sweetest little one,
from deepest sleep awake.
