O Lord,
You came in the night of my sorrows.
You did not come during my happy days.

You came into fold through tears
and could not be deluded by crafty deception.

I had kept the basket of spring flowers ready for Your worship.
I could not attain You

by offering them
but attained You instead in prayer during pain.

During the play of laughter,
and the festivity of light,
during these happy hours of mine,
I could not find You.

It was in pitch darkness that I experienced Your mercy.
