O Lord Krsna,
won’t You come again
at this dark and cloudy hour of the night?

O my beloved,
embodiment of divine qualities,
won’t the dark prison house of Mathura be lit again?

Maddened by Your sweet name,
the herds of cows are no more all ears to listen to Your flute.
In the beautiful palace of king Nanda,
nights are no longer as illuminated as before.

Waves do no longer rise in the waters of the Yamuna river.
No one gets a glimpse of the colour of Your dark skin anymore.
In the groves of tamala and kadamba trees
the gopiis no longer pauselessly dance.
